Iran, IAEA sign deal to resume cooperation: Iranian FM

Iran and IAEA Restart Nuclear Cooperation After Key Agreement in Cairo

In a big move towards easing tensions, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have signed a deal to get their nuclear cooperation back on track. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi shared the news during a joint press conference in Cairo on Tuesday.

Araghchi spoke alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. He stressed that the agreement boosts ties while fully respecting Iran’s sovereignty and keeping its people safe. "Iran won’t back down on its nuclear rights or policies," he added firmly.

Egypt’s Abdelatty chimed in, saying Iran wants to jump back into talks on its nuclear program. Egypt is playing a key role here, trying to bridge the gap between Iran and European countries. The goal? Cool down the heated situation in the region. "Egypt stays committed to promoting stability at home and abroad," Abdelatty noted.

On the social media front, Grossi took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the deal. He announced that Iran and the IAEA have sorted out practical steps to restart nuclear inspections in Iran. "This is a positive step that paves the way for diplomacy and peace," Grossi posted, sharing photos of him and Araghchi signing the documents.

This comes after Iran halted its IAEA cooperation in June, following Israeli-US strikes on its nuclear sites and the killing of Iranian nuclear scientists. Back then, Iran demanded that all IAEA inspections get the nod from its Supreme National Security Council. They also insisted on strong safety guarantees for their nuclear facilities and experts before resuming work.

Just before this Cairo agreement, Iran and IAEA officials held talks in Vienna over the weekend. These steps signal a potential thaw in the long-running Iran nuclear standoff, which has grabbed global headlines for years.

With this fresh Iran IAEA agreement, eyes are now on how it could lead to broader nuclear talks and reduce regional risks. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
