SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old Malaysian man, Goh Eugene, was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint on Sunday, Dec. 28, for his alleged involvement in a Cambodia-based scam syndicate. The group, reportedly operating from Phnom Penh, targeted Singaporeans through government official impersonation scams, police said in a statement on Monday.
Arrest Details and Investigation
Goh was apprehended while entering Singapore. His identity was confirmed through ongoing investigations into the organised criminal network. Authorities revealed that the syndicate is linked to at least 438 scam cases, causing losses of around S$41 million (US$31.9 million).
The group was operating from a scam compound in Phnom Penh, which was disrupted in a joint operation by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Cambodian National Police on September 9. SPF also issued prohibition of disposal orders and seized assets tied to the syndicate as part of the continuing investigation.

Goh will be charged in court on Tuesday with facilitating the commission of a serious offence, in connection with a locally linked organized criminal group. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to S$100,000, or both.
