Previous governments used to talk about health modules, but didn’t do anything, says CM Rekha Gupta

Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, said on Saturday that the capital’s hospitals are getting a major makeover. After touring several health‑care sites, she told reporters that earlier administrations “left big gaps” in medical technology and equipment.
“Last time we heard talk about health modules but no machines were actually in place,” Gupta said. “Today, every major hospital has the gear it needs, and all of the ventilators are working 100 percent.”
The Delhi government has put a lot of effort into expanding medical capacity. Beds in public hospitals are now more plentiful than before, and the state is closing the gap on essential medicines, which it says are currently 90 percent available. Gupta stressed that the three‑year‑old shortfall is being fixed as quickly as possible.
She also highlighted a humanitarian gesture. Earlier that day, the CM handed out cheques to families whose relatives died while treating COVID‑19 patients. “Those workers gave their all, and the previous government forgot to give them their dues,” she said. “We apologize for those delays and are ensuring that the money is delivered today.”
Gupta pointed out that the improvement plans began when she took office, and that Delhi is now establishing “all the necessary processes to strengthen medical services.” She described it as a shift from empty promises to real, tangible upgrades in equipment, staffing and supply.
The CM’s remarks come as India’s health sector faces ongoing supply challenges and lingering shortages from the pandemic. Delhi’s focus on fully operational ventilators, expanded bed capacity and increased pharmaceutical availability aims to set a new standard for public hospitals in the nation’s capital.
Her call for action, combined with the distribution of overdue compensation, reflects a priority shift—moving from vague policy talk to concrete, on‑ground improvements in the city’s healthcare infrastructure.
