New Delhi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a charge sheet against three people for a bribery case that involved a staggering ₹50 lakh (about $62,000).
The accused are Dr. Ajay Kumar, an additional director at CGHS Meerut, Lavesh Solanki, the office superintendent of CGHS Meerut, and a private individual named Raees Ahmad.
The CBI opened the investigation on August 12, 2025, after a hospital group in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, filed a complaint. The hospital chain operates several facilities in the region and alleged that the officials demanded a bribe of ₹50 lakh to keep their hospitals on the CGHS empanelment list.
According to the agency, the officials agreed to accept a partial payment of ₹5 lakh – the first installment of the promised bribe – on August 12. As part of a sting operation, the CBI caught the officials and the private person in possession of the ₹5 lakh.
Further searches at the accused’s homes recovered an additional ₹29.50 lakh in cash and brought in several incriminating documents, the agency said. The evidence, which included oral, documentary and digital records, proved that the accused conspired, abetted and demanded illegal payments.
Earlier this week, the CBI also arrested a superintendent and an inspector of the Central Goods and Services Tax in Mumbai. They were accused of demanding and accepting a ₹25,000 bribe from a businessman.
The CBI reaffirmed its zero‑tolerance stance on corruption in government departments and urged the public to report any bribe requests via its helpline or online portal.
