J-K: Over 700 displaced in Poonch landslides; Ramban cloudburst victims assured government support

Families Evacuated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch District Due to Heavy Rain and Landslides

In the Mendhar sector of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have started moving families out of Kalaban village. Heavy rainfall over the past few days triggered continuous landslides and land subsidence, making the area too dangerous to stay in. Around 700 people now face the impact, with nearly 95 homes showing cracks from the shifting ground.

Local officials have declared the village unsafe and urged residents to leave right away. The affected families are heading to nearby shelters, where teams are rolling out relief efforts like food, water, and medical help. This Jammu and Kashmir landslide news highlights how relentless rains have turned a quiet village into an emergency zone.

Leader of Opposition Visits Cloudburst-Hit Ramban District

Meanwhile, in Ramban district, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma stepped in to support families hit by a deadly cloudburst. On Friday, he visited the Gadhgaram area in Rajgarh Tehsil, where five people tragically lost their lives in the sudden downpour and flash floods. Sharma met with the grieving families, shared his condolences, and promised full backing from the central government and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration.

Sharma stressed that the government stands ready to deliver relief and rehabilitation for everyone affected by the Jammu and Kashmir cloudburst and floods. He made the trip to check the damage firsthand, understand the challenges on the ground, and spot urgent needs. "We’re committed to helping rebuild lives here," he added.

Rescue teams keep working non-stop across Ramban to find missing people and hand out essentials. Officials are on site, coordinating with locals to ensure no one gets left behind in this heavy rainfall crisis.

Local Leaders Step Up in Ramban After Land Subsidence Scares

Ramban’s local leaders, including MLA Arjun Singh Raju, the Deputy Commissioner, and District Development Council members, have toured the worst-hit spots. They promised quick relocation to safer areas and fair compensation for lost homes and belongings.

Talking to , Raju described the panic: "People called us at night saying the ground was sinking. By morning, we’d seen subsidence of 1 to 1.5 feet, with cracks in 20-25 houses. We’ve checked everything—don’t worry, the government will handle the arrangements and move you to safe places."

This comes as heavy rains batter Ramban and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, causing rivers to swell and flash floods to strike. The region, including the Kashmir Valley, sits in Seismic Zone 5, making it highly vulnerable to earthquakes on top of these weather woes.
