On December 10, LatestNewsX reported that the resting place of Renukaswamy—a devotee accused of being killed by Kannada actor Darshan and his associates—had been damaged at a burial area in Chitradurga district. The incident was discovered on Wednesday.
The granite plaque on the memorial, which bore Renukaswamy’s name as well as his birth and death dates, was shattered, and portions of the structure itself appear to have been harmed. The damage took place at the Jogimatti burial ground in Chitradurga city, though authorities are still uncertain about when it occurred.
Relatives said they had no idea until they were informed. Early investigations suggest the destruction might have happened during a recent building project nearby, while police continue to look into the possibility of intentional vandalism by a criminal element. Some reports indicate the damage could date back to September 14.
The incident has sparked local concern, leading police to initiate a thorough inquiry.
Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga, allegedly was abducted and murdered on June 11, 2024. The Kannada star Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others have been arrested in connection with the case.
Investigators claim Renukaswamy sent offensive and obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, who was upset by Darshan’s affair with her despite his married status.
Darshan was earlier moved to Ballari prison after photos emerged of him seemingly enjoying “royal treatment” at Bengaluru Central Prison. He now faces three FIRs related to the incident.
On September 4, 2024, police filed a 3,991‑page charge sheet and an additional one with the court. After 131 days of detention, Darshan was granted bail on October 30, 2024. However, following an appeal by Karnataka Police, the Supreme Court revoked the bail, resulting in the re‑arrest of Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and the other suspects.
A Karnataka court has since laid charges against Darshan, Pavithra, and the 15 co‑defendants in the high‑profile case, all of whom deny any wrongdoing.
Darshan has been charged under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 355 (causing grievous injuries), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 204 (destruction of evidence), and 359 (kidnapping). He also faces charges under Sections 143, 147, 148, and 149 for unlawful assembly and related offenses.
