‘Ajey: The Untold Story of a Monk’ writer speaks up on relationship of cinema, society

Dilip Bachchan Jha, the talented writer behind the hit sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, has now crafted the script for an exciting new film: Ajey: The Untold Story of a Monk. This upcoming movie dives into the inspiring journey of Yogi Adityanath, drawing from Shantanu Gupta’s bestselling book The Monk Who Became Chief Minister. It traces his transformation from a simple boy in Uttarakhand to a powerful political leader.

Jha believes cinema and society go hand in hand, with movies reflecting our real lives. In a recent statement shared by his team, he explained, "Cinema mirrors the society and times we live in. In a mature society, leaders and influencers use films to inspire people. For a huge, young, and fast-growing country like India, we need more such motivational stories—ones that young audiences can connect with right away."

To make the script authentic, Jha traveled across Uttarakhand, visiting key spots from Yogi Adityanath’s early days. He explored the leader’s birthplace in Panchur, plus Rishikesh and Kotdwar, where he studied in college. "There are so many amazing and emotional moments in his life," Jha shared. "He was super close to his family and friends, dreaming like any middle-class kid. Then, he left it all behind to serve society as a yogi. I kept thinking about the emotional rollercoaster he went through—and how his family must have felt."

The film highlights Yogi Adityanath’s early fights for women’s safety and rights, including a bold college incident where he stood up against goons. Jha noted the challenge of turning book facts into a gripping story: "Books give all the details, but they often skip the drama and human emotions. As a screenwriter, I had to weave in that relatable side to make it hit home for viewers."

Starring young actor Anant Joshi as Yogi Adityanath, the movie also features veteran star Paresh Rawal in a key role. Ajey: The Untold Story of a Monk promises to be a heartfelt biopic on leadership, sacrifice, and inspiration. Mark your calendars—it’s all set to hit cinemas on September 19, 2025.
