In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, author and mental health expert Priya Sharma shared a special moment with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday. She presented her new book, The Light He Left Behind, to him at Oakover. This heartfelt story draws from real life, sharing the journey of Priya’s late brother, her mother’s bravery, and her own path through love, loss, and healing. The book also packs in helpful tips and reflections to support anyone dealing with grief and mental health recovery.
The Chief Minister’s office highlighted how the book turns personal pain into a beacon of hope. CM Sukhu praised Priya’s bold step, saying it inspires people facing tough times and shines a light on mental health awareness. He wished her all the best for her upcoming projects.
Just a few days earlier, on Saturday, another talented Himachal artist caught the CM’s eye. Akshita Sharma, a 2016 graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Delhi, gifted him a stunning artwork inspired by the rugged, mud-washed walls of Lahaul and Spiti districts. This piece mixes earthy tones with traditional Himalayan vibes, featuring agate and jasper stones—gems often used in local jewelry for their grounding and protective powers.
CM Sukhu loved the artwork and congratulated Akshita for breathing new life into Himachal’s rich heritage crafts. As a designer and creative consultant, she blends traditional crafts, culture, and modern design. Over the last five years, Akshita has teamed up with artisan groups and government bodies in Himachal Pradesh to boost sustainability and storytelling through her work.
Her highlights include reviving the ancient hemp Pulla craft in Gadagushaini village and curating special gifts for big names like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and spiritual leader Sadhguru. She even represented Himachal at the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Today, Akshita keeps pushing forward by partnering with institutions, startups, and local communities to keep these crafts alive and relevant in everyday life.
These encounters show how Himachal Pradesh’s leaders are championing local talent, mental health stories, and cultural preservation—one inspiring gift at a time.
