Commerce minister Piyush Goyal rolled out India’s new Trade Intelligence & Analytics (TIA) portal in New Delhi on Tuesday, giving exporters, importers, startups and MSMEs fresh access to data that had long been the domain of large firms.
The portal, already home to a flood of trade statistics, lets small businesses tap into real‑time information on global markets, free‑trade agreements and emerging service opportunities. Goyal said the tool will help companies spot new products and markets, especially in the booming global services sector, and take advantage of India’s free‑trade deals.
How the portal works
The Trade Intelligence & Analytics portal unites hundreds of trade and macro‑economic databases into one easy‑to‑use platform. Users can view India’s trade picture from a country‑by‑country, commodity‑by‑commodity perspective, and even zoom in on bilateral trends with interactive charts. Automated APIs feed the portal, letting users extract and download data with a few clicks.
Monthly trade reports—more than 300 pages each—and surge reports on imports and exports are also auto‑generated, saving time for business planners and policy makers alike.
Benefits for all sizes of business
Goyal highlighted that the portal gives small and medium enterprises—no matter where they are in India—access to the same data that large corporations have used for years. With dashboards that track champion products, production‑linked incentive (PLI) commodities, and critical minerals, companies can see where India already excels and where new opportunities arise.
The portal also includes new tools for tariff analysis, target monitoring, and a Trade Complementarity Index that shows how closely India’s exports match the import needs of partner countries.
Why it matters for India
The Ministry of Commerce built the portal after recognizing that better trade intelligence would drive diversification and help India expand its trade basket. By giving all stakeholders—exporters, importers, firms and governments—clear insights, the portal supports evidence‑based policy and targeted sectoral action.
