Abhishek Banerjee asks ECI to livestream meeting with Trinamool delegation on Nov 28

Kolkata, Nov 25 – Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee publicly demanded that the Election Commission of India (ECI) stream the forthcoming meeting with the party’s delegation, which will include ten members of parliament, live on November 28.

In his post, Banerjee wrote that the 10‑member delegation is “representatives ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF INDIA,” contrasting them with the Chief Election Commissioner and the election commissioners, who are appointed by the government. He claims that the EC’s attempt to portray itself as “transparent” and “cordial” is merely a staged façade. “If the @ECISVEEP is truly open, why does it fear the presence of just 10 MPs?” he asked. “Hold the meeting openly. TELECAST IT LIVE and answer the five straightforward, legitimate questions that the AITC will pose. Will the Election Commission prove its transparency or continue to operate behind closed doors?” Banerjee challenged.

Earlier that day, news emerged that the ECI had written to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, granting approval for a meeting with a Trinamool Congress delegation to discuss matters such as the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state. The meeting was scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday at the ECI headquarters in New Delhi.

Later, Derek O’Brien, the party’s parliamentary leader in the Rajya Sabha, responded to the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar by listing the names of the ten delegates who would attend. The delegation includes Lok Sabha MPs Satabdi Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Pratima Mondal, Sajda Ahmed, and Mahua Moitra, as well as Rajya Sabha MPs Dola Sen, Mamata Thakur, Saket Gokhale, and Prakash Chik Barik.

Following these arrangements, Abhishek Banerjee posted again on social media, urging the commission to broadcast the session live.
