Good news for dairy lovers in Kerala! The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, better known as Milma, just slashed prices on nearly 100 value-added dairy products. This move brings real relief to shoppers across the state, especially with festival season around the corner.
The price drops stem from the Indian government’s recent tweaks to Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on dairy items. Starting Monday, you’ll pay less for your favorites at Milma outlets.
Take ghee, a must-have in every Kerala kitchen. A one-liter pack now costs 675 rupees, down from 720 rupees, thanks to the GST cut from 12% to 5%. The 500-milliliter version drops to 345 rupees from 370 rupees.
Butter gets cheaper too, falling to 225 rupees per pack from 240 rupees. And paneer? The 500-gram pack now sells for 234 rupees, a 11-rupee reduction, after the government scrapped GST on it entirely.
Desserts aren’t left out. Vanilla ice cream in a one-liter tub drops to 196 rupees from 220 rupees, following a GST slash from 18% to 5%. Expect similar savings on other treats.
Milma also lowered prices for flavoured milk (now at 5% GST instead of 12%), UHT milk (fully GST-exempt), packaged juices, and payasam mixes (GST down from 18% to 5%). These changes make everyday dairy essentials and ready-to-eat options more affordable.
Milma Chairman K.S. Mani emphasized the company’s dedication to passing on every bit of the tax savings to customers. “Ghee, butter, and paneer will cost about 7% less, while ice creams see a 12-13% drop,” he said. “This not only lightens the load for families but also helps our primary milk cooperatives stay competitive.”
Officials at Milma expect these cuts to spark more sales of their value-added dairy range, from basics like milk and curd to festival favorites.
