The arrest happened in a joint operation, bringing quick relief to the city that had been gripped by fear.
The culprit, Ashwin Supra, first got picked up by a special team in Noida. They later handed him over to Mumbai Police for deeper questioning. This guy has a history of trouble—he even threatened a businessman in Bihar before, and cops link him to several cyber fraud cases.
What sparked the panic? Ashwin fired off a scary WhatsApp message to the Mumbai Traffic Police, claiming he planted 400 kg of RDX in 34 vehicles across the city. He warned that over one crore lives were in danger. The message dropped just as Ganesh Chaturthi festivities wrapped up, sending shockwaves through Mumbai.
Security forces jumped into action fast. Bomb detection squads swept key spots, and intelligence teams worked overtime to check the claim. Thankfully, no explosives turned up, but the hoax caused major chaos and worry among people enjoying the festival.
Digging deeper, police revealed that Ashwin had been hiding out in Noida for the past five years. On September 6, they tracked him down to Sector-113 based on solid leads. During the raid, they seized seven SIM cards from him. He already faces two criminal cases in Patna for posing as others to pull off financial scams.
In his initial chat with cops, Ashwin said he’s an astrologer by trade. They grabbed his mobile phone—the one he used to send the threat—and now they’re probing his mental state, any ties to extremists, and why he pulled this stunt.
