A black bear, suddenly popping into the 50th‑annual Christmas parade in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, took center stage as crowds captured the moment on their phones. The animal trekked the illuminated parade route, unfazed by curious onlookers, and eventually slipped into a nearby parking lot, prompting some spectators to exclaim, “Waiting on the Christmas parade and a bear came out!!!.” Social‑media footage showed the bear calmly strolling past empty cars while viewers shouted from the sidelines. While some people cheered the playful “Santa Claws” spectacle, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials warned that the bear might have become too comfortable around people and could pose a danger if it links humans with food. Matt Cameron of the agency urged the public to keep bears wild, stressing that habituation could lead to trouble. In the days after, the wildlife office noted that the bear was later caught rummaging through trash cans. To curtail such behavior, the town has installed bear‑proof garbage containers and urged residents to use them properly, hoping to keep the roughly 1,500 bears that roam the Great Smoky Mountains from encroaching on the downtown area.
