A huge far-right rally in London, led by activist Tommy Robinson, spiraled into chaos on Saturday when clashes erupted between protesters and police. The violence left 26 officers injured and led to 25 arrests, as reported by local media.
Things heated up quickly, according to the Metropolitan Police. Supporters of Robinson tried to push through barriers separating them from a counter-protest by the “Stand Up to Racism” group. Officers faced punches, kicks, and flying bottles, prompting backup teams with riot shields and helmets to rush in.
Among the injuries, four officers suffered badly: one with broken teeth, another with a concussion, a suspected broken nose, and even a spinal injury. It’s a stark reminder of how tense these UK protests can get.
Police estimate the crowd at the “Unite the Kingdom” march swelled to between 110,000 and 150,000 people—one of the biggest right-wing gatherings in Britain lately. But organizers say the numbers were even higher, hailing attendees as “patriots.” Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, called it a “tidal wave of patriotism” and a full-on “cultural revolution.” He’s the founder of the nationalist English Defence League and a key figure in the UK’s far-right scene.
The event drew big names too. Several far-right leaders showed up, and tech billionaire Elon Musk joined via video, pushing for political change in Britain. He said people are “scared to exercise their free speech” these days.
To keep things under control, over 1,600 officers patrolled London that day, juggling the Tommy Robinson rally with football matches and concerts. Police are still digging into the violence, and more updates are expected soon.
