In Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army stepped up to support women’s and children’s health through a special camp organized by the 150 General Hospital. Under the leadership of Brigadier Poonam Raj, the event teamed up with the Military Dental Centre in Rajouri to reach out to families from nearby rural villages. This effort ties into the nationwide Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, a major push to boost maternal health and family wellness across India.
Local sarpanch Shazia Tabassum praised the initiative, noting how women traveled from distant villages to get medical checkups, counseling, and help with family health concerns. “Women from far-off villages came here for the program at 150 GH,” she told . “Doctors handled their health checkups and counseling, listened to all their problems, and solved them. This is a fantastic step by the Army.”
The Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, or Healthy Women Empowered Family Campaign, launched on September 17 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. It kicked off alongside the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, India’s national nutrition month. This marks the country’s biggest health outreach ever for women and children, aiming to deliver preventive care, early screenings, and treatments right in communities.
The campaign, run by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women & Child Development, plans over 1 million health camps from September 17 to October 2. These will happen at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, community health centers, district hospitals, and other government spots. Expect services focused on women, like screenings for non-communicable diseases, anemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease. It also covers antenatal care, child immunizations, nutrition tips, menstrual hygiene education, lifestyle advice, and mental health support. Communities will get motivated to adopt healthier habits, including obesity prevention, better eating, and voluntary blood donations.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the campaign’s focus during his launch speech. “Our mothers and sisters—our Nari Shakti—are the foundation of our nation’s progress,” he said. “A healthy mother keeps the whole family strong. Her well-being affects everyone. That’s why this drive is all about empowering mothers and sisters for a healthier future.”
