Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh believes the upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup will be a one-sided affair. Speaking ahead of the high-stakes clash at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, Yograj says Pakistan simply lacks the firepower to challenge India, despite their recent T20I Tri-Series win over Afghanistan.
India enters the game as overwhelming favorites, while Pakistan’s batters have struggled to fire on all cylinders. Yograj points to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the game-changer that’s widened the gap between the two teams. “Pakistan can’t compete with India anymore,” he told . “Ever since the IPL arrived, Indian players have reached new heights—thanks to the big money and opportunities. That’s a good thing! Players deserve prosperity, and where there’s money, there’s growth.”
To drive home his point, Yograj used a vivid metaphor: “There’s no real match between Pakistan and India. Their platform is like clay, while we play in the sky. The ground and the sky never meet—it’s impossible.”
Looking at Pakistan’s cricket scene, Yograj feels they need a mindset shift to get back on track. He draws inspiration from their 1992 World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan. “Pakistan should build its own team and nurture its players just like India does,” he said. “Imran Khan spotted talented players from tough backgrounds, backed them fully, and that’s how they won the World Cup. They need that same vision now.”
The Asia Cup India squad features Suryakumar Yadav as captain, alongside stars like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Jitesh Sharma, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, and Rinku Singh.
Pakistan’s Asia Cup team is led by Salman Ali Agha, with key players including Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Waseem Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Afridi, and Sufyan Moqim.
Cricket fans are buzzing about this India-Pakistan rivalry in the Asia Cup—will it live up to the hype, or will Yograj’s prediction hold true? Stay tuned for the action from Dubai.
