Jitan Ram Manjhi slams Tejashwi Yadav over job promise, terms it ‘impractical’

Patna, October 25 – In a sharp press conference, Union Minister for MSME Jitan Ram Manjhi took aim at political rival Tejashwi Yadav’s election promise that every family in Bihar would get a government job. Manjhi called the pledge “impractical and misleading.’’

The minister met reporters in Patna after returning from Delhi. “People promise whatever comes to mind, but that isn’t realistic,” he said. “Biharis know the truth.” Manjhi fired off criticism of Yadav’s campaign, questioning whether the former deputy chief minister can truly deliver on his big promises.

Yadav, who heads the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), told voters that if his party wins on November 14, the state would appoint a government worker in every household. He also promised to make women-led self‑help groups—Jeevika Diwas—permanent, giving members a basic salary of ₹30,000 a month plus an extra ₹2,000 in allowances.

Manjhi reminded reporters of the past. “Before 2005, when Tejashwi’s parents, Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav, were in power, Bihar saw little progress and was clouded by fear,” he said. “If they did nothing before, what will their son do now?”

He also warned other parties against unrealistic claims. “If the RJD came to power, it would tear up all bills,” one RJD lawmaker had said—so, Manjhi replied, “the NDA will bring the moon down to Earth. Is that possible? No. Grand Alliance leaders make similar claims.” He added a dismissive remark about allegations that two Gujaratis were running Bihar.

The minister finished by underscoring his confidence that Betra coalition leaders Nitish Kumar and his allies will win the upcoming election. “No one runs Bihar better than Nitish Kumar,” he said. “He’s delivered on electricity, roads and law and order for two decades.”

The debate ahead of the November 14 elections is heating up, with both sides promising ambitious reforms and infrastructure improvements. As voters head to the polls, the key questions remain: can Yadav’s promises be fulfilled, and will the NDA’s promises keep the promise?
