Man fatally struck by snowplow in Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport parking lot during winter storm

A 47‑year‑old man lost his life when he was struck by a snowplow at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport during a winter storm. The collision happened on Tuesday just before 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the LSG Sky Chef facility near Terminal 2, according to Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesperson Jeff Lea speaking to People. First responders rushed to the scene and tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead there.

The snowplow, a Ford F550, was operated by a 25‑year‑old driver who had been privately hired by LSG Sky Chef to clear snow. He was not part of the airport’s regular crew. Lea said the operator remained on the scene, cooperated with officials, and no impairment was suspected.

The Minnesota State Patrol is working with MSP Airport Police to investigate the incident. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name while they notify his family.

LSG Sky Chef confirmed in a statement to CBS News that the deceased had been an employee of the company and that his passing deeply affects colleagues who worked closely with him. “This loss affects all of us – especially those who worked closely with him every day,” a spokesperson added.

The accident occurred during a regional winter storm that saw upper‑20‑degree temperatures and light snow. Officials have not yet determined whether the weather played a role in the crash, though more than 200 flights out of Minneapolis–Saint Paul were delayed that day. Minneapolis declared a snow emergency at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. City officials explained that the emergency rules allow snowplows to clear streets so emergency vehicles and other traffic can move and park, as detailed in a recent press release.
