Rahul Gandhi visited the hill town of Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday to rally Congress party workers and district leaders. He stressed the need to strengthen the party’s grassroots network ahead of the 2028 state assembly election and the 2029 general election.
During a high‑level training session for district presidents, part of Congress’s “Sangthan Srijan Abhiyan,” Gandhi urged local leaders to tighten their organisational structure and raise farmers’ concerns in rural areas. Senior party figures—former chief minister Digvijay Singh, tribal leader Kantilal Bhuria, and others—were present. Singh shared a three‑year roadmap aimed at energising the campaign and reconnecting with voters in the state’s hinterlands.
Gandhi’s approach was inclusive. He sat on the floor while addressing workers and spent long periods talking with district presidents about organisational matters. He later joined their families for a dinner, fostering camaraderie within the cadre.
The visit took a sharp political turn when Gandhi posted a video on X. He condemned the BJP‑led state and central governments for their alleged neglect of children’s welfare. Images had surfaced of school children in Sheopur district eating mid‑day meals served on discarded newspapers, without plates. Gandhi called the situation “shameful” and blamed BJP leaders, saying that for more than 20 years they had stripped children of their dignity.
“Even after 20 years of BJP rule, children don’t have plates to eat their mid‑day meals,” he tweeted. “This is an illusion of development,” he added, pointing to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gandhi will spend the night in Pachmarhi and will fly by helicopter to Bhopal on Sunday for additional engagements. Reports say Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress national president, may join the next round of discussions. The party sees Madhya Pradesh as a key battleground, and Rahul Gandhi’s visit signals an aggressive strategy to regain lost ground in the Hindi heartland.
