Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) kicked off the national Swachhata Hi Seva‑2025 drive from September 17 to October 2, working hand‑in‑hand with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The campaign, part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a cleaner, greener India, saw more than 2,000 volunteers help clean up the country.
Under the campaign, MHI identified 90 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and cleared 45 public places. The ministry, along with its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and Autonomous Bodies (ABs), kept the momentum going with a series of people‑oriented events called Swachhotsav. Activities ranged from “Waste‑to‑Art” exhibitions and painting contests under the slogan Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Ore (One Step Towards Cleanliness) to tree‑planting drives and community outreach programs.
The initiative pulled in students, teachers, hospital staff, health‑clinic workers, and local NGOs, turning the campaign into a nationwide clean‑up movement. BHEL, a prominent CPSE under MHI, hosted a pledge ceremony at its HEEP Unit in Haridwar, where employees vowed to continue working toward the goal of a cleaner, greener India. Meanwhile, BBJ, another MHI CPSE, organized a “Swachhata Shramdaan” event at its Heavy Plant Yard in Kolkata.
By engaging volunteers and businesses alike, MHI and its CPSEs and ABs are reinforcing a collective commitment to a sustainable future, in line with the Swachh Bharat vision. Their actions demonstrate how industry can lead the push for environmental responsibility and a cleaner India.
