Tiny Bhagavad Gita Steals the Show at Lucknow Book Fair
Imagine slipping the wisdom of the ancient Bhagavad Gita into your pocket like a smartphone— that’s exactly what’s drawing huge crowds at the ongoing National Book Fair in Lucknow. Running from September 4 to 14 at Balrampur Garden in Hazratganj, this year’s fair has some real gems, but two items are stealing the spotlight: a super-mini Gita and a creative cutout book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The star attraction is the world’s smallest Bhagavad Gita, brought by Apoorv Shah from Navrang Printers in Ahmedabad. This pocket-sized wonder measures just 1 inch tall and 1.5 inches wide, packs 400 pages, weighs only 80 grams, and costs a steal at Rs 80. Shah, who translated it into Hindi and printed it himself, told us he designed it for easy carrying. "I wanted a Bhagavad Gita version that fits anywhere, and even young people are loving it," he shared.
Launched in 2019, this mini edition has sold over 500 copies so far. At the Lucknow book fair, Shah arrived with 100 copies, and 91 have flown off the shelves already. One happy buyer, retired PCS officer Dinesh Gupta from Lucknow, couldn’t hide his excitement. "The Gita inspires me every day, and finding this tiny version is fantastic," he said.
Not far behind is Shah’s innovative cutout book on PM Narendra Modi. This 11-inch, 180-gram book dives into the Prime Minister’s life, daily routine, and achievements through clever pop-up designs. Priced at Rs 250, it’s a hit with the youth—Shah sold all 100 copies in just six days. "Lucknow’s young crowd is buzzing about reading PM Modi’s story in such a fun way," he added.
For those new to it, the Bhagavad Gita is a timeless Hindu scripture from the Mahabharata epic, dating back to the 2nd or 1st century BCE. It blends key ideas like dharma, yoga, knowledge, and devotion, making it a guide for life that resonates even today.
If you’re in Lucknow, head to the National Book Fair before it wraps up on September 14— these unique finds might just inspire your next read!
