The left is waging a sustained domestic-terror campaign against the Trump presidency

Donald Trump’s second term is facing a wave of low-level domestic terrorism aimed at blocking his agenda. These attacks mostly target property, but some have turned deadly serious, with clear political motives against the former president.

Many expected massive street riots after Trump’s 2024 election win, similar to 2016. But the initial backlash felt subdued—a so-called “vibe shift” in politics. Things heated up once his administration started rolling out policies.

The violence kicked off with assaults on Tesla, tied to Elon Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Protesters angry over Musk’s push to slash federal jobs and foreign aid vandalized cars, set dealerships ablaze, fired gunshots, and hurled Molotov cocktails. They even damaged charging stations. This isn’t ISIS-style terror, but it fits the definition: violence to push a political goal.

Next came a surge in attacks on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Riots erupted outside ICE facilities, followed by arson, shootings, and more. One wild incident happened in July at an ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas. A group in black military gear shot fireworks and sprayed graffiti to lure officers outside for an ambush.

Hiding in the woods, one attacker shot a police officer in the neck—he survived. Another fired over 20 rounds at correctional officers who stepped out. When arrested, the suspects wore body armor and carried two-way radios. Authorities linked the plot to a Dallas-area anti-fascist group.

Just days later, an armed man tried storming a Border Patrol office in McAllen, Texas, but officers shot him dead.

These anti-Tesla and anti-ICE attacks stem from opposition to Musk’s cost-cutting plans and ICE’s efforts to detain undocumented immigrants, including some with criminal records. If minor policy changes spark this much fury, what happens during a real national crisis?

Democrats and progressive leaders have fueled the fire with dire warnings of impending doom. Their heated words pair with peaceful protests and acts of civil disobedience—like officials getting arrested at immigration rallies. But on the fringes, it escalates to violence from extremists and the frustrated.

Add in the assassination of MAGA figure Charlie Kirk, plus two attempts on Trump’s life last year, and the pattern emerges: scattered but persistent efforts to derail Trump’s policies through force—or even end his movement with murder. No central leadership ties these attackers together; their motives vary, making it tough to stop.

Democrats could help by recognizing Trump’s legitimate election and goals, even while fighting his ideas. But many see his presidency as the brink of fascism. The mainstream media should call out this political violence too. Imagine if a Kamala Harris administration faced attacks on Mark Cuban’s businesses, arson at abortion clinics, and the killing of a top supporter—the coverage would scream national emergency.

As Abraham Lincoln once noted about his own threats, “There’s nothing like getting used to things.” But America shouldn’t normalize violence in politics. It’s time to address this growing threat head-on.
