Maharashtra: Dy CM Eknath Shinde emphasises farmers’ support, Balasaheb’s ideals on Dussehra

MUMBAI, India — At the Shiv Sena’s annual Dussehra rally in Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde rallied supporters by pledging strong help for farmers hit hard by recent floods. He also stressed the party’s dedication to the vision of founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, celebrates good triumphing over evil—think Lord Rama defeating the demon king Ravana. It wraps up the colorful nine-day Navratri festival with parades, fireworks, and community events across India.

Shinde zeroed in on the tough times Maharashtra farmers are facing from devastating floods. He called them “Baliraja,” a symbol of their struggles, and urged Shiv Sena workers to step up with real aid. “Baliraja is hurting—they’ve lost their land, homes, and crops,” Shinde said, sharing how he’s witnessed the pain firsthand as the son of a farmer himself.

The deputy chief minister promised quick action from the state government, including relief before the Diwali festival kicks off next month. He warned farmers against desperate measures and screened a video showing flood damage in Maharashtra and how Shiv Sena volunteers are already pitching in to help.

“Where there’s a crisis or disaster, you’ll find Shiv Sena workers on the ground—that’s the lesson Balasaheb Thackeray taught us,” Shinde added. He imagined Thackeray applauding the team’s efforts if he were still around.

Shinde didn’t hold back on national praise either, giving a shoutout to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for running a clean government. “No corruption allegations against him, and those big scams from the old UPA days? They’re history now,” he said.

Looking ahead, Shinde recommitted to Thackeray’s key promises, like building homes for mill workers in Mumbai. He fired up the crowd for upcoming elections, including Shiv Sena’s 2026 birth centenary celebrations. “Focus on our work to win big for the Mahayuti alliance,” he urged. “I’ll lead by example—working like an ordinary party foot soldier, not just as deputy chief minister. Let’s raise the saffron flag high in every poll.”

The rally drew huge crowds waving saffron flags, embodying the spirit of Dussehra and Maharashtra politics. ()
