Minister reiterates resolve to ensure timely promotions of govt employees

New Delhi, Dec. 9 (LatestNewsX) – The government confirmed on Tuesday that it is committed to speeding up promotions for employees wherever possible, saying that regular advancement keeps the workforce motivated and productive.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh explained that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is clearing an old backlog created during the previous UPA administration. He noted that a large mass‑promotion drive was launched by the Modi government, which also addressed dormant reserve‑vacancy promotions.

During his visit, Dr Singh met a delegation from the Central Secretariat Services (CSS) Group C Employees’ Association. The group presented a detailed report on service issues, especially promotions and cadre restructuring, and requested that the government consider the promotion status of Multi‑Tasking Staff (MTS) and CSS Clerical Service (CSCS) members.

The minister highlighted that significant promotion activities had covered the Central Secretariat Service, Central Secretariat Stenographers’ Service, and Central Secretariat Clerical Service. He recalled that over 8,000 promotion orders were issued on June 30, 2022 alone, and more than 16,200 orders had been released between 2022 and 2024 across various grades.

The delegation urged that any upcoming CSCS cadre review be published and implemented as soon as possible, and called for structural changes to provide a clear, predictable career path. The requests were formally submitted to the minister during the meeting.

Dr Singh listened to the concerns and directed the relevant officials to prioritise these matters and act swiftly. His pledge for a prompt follow‑up has lifted hopes among Group C employees, who have long been worried about career progression and cadre reforms. The representatives expressed gratitude, saying that resolving these issues promptly would boost morale and efficiency within the Central Secretariat.
