Three Tripura University scientists named in Stanford University’s prestigious top 2% list for 2025

Three faculty members from Tripura University in Northeast India have earned a spot on Stanford University’s prestigious Top 2% Scientists list for 2025, marking a big win for the region’s research scene.

The honored researchers include Professor Binod Chandra Tripathy from the Mathematics Department, Dr. Arabinda Ghosh from Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics, and Dr. Ratan Das from the Physics Department. This recognition puts them among the world’s most influential scientists, based on citation metrics from Stanford, Elsevier, and Scopus. The list ranks the top 2% of researchers across 22 fields and 174 subfields, factoring in things like h-index, co-authorship, and career impact while adjusting for self-citations and retractions.

Professor Tripathy stands out for his work in sequence classes—both crisp and fuzzy—matrix characterizations, sequence space duals, matrix operator spectra, convergence acceleration, and series analysis. Dr. Ghosh, an assistant professor, dives into computational systems biology, recombinant DNA technology, enzymology, and computer-aided drug design. Dr. Das, also an assistant professor, focuses on materials science and condensed matter physics.

This achievement spotlights Tripura University’s rising research power in mathematics, molecular biology, and physics. Their impactful papers, cross-field collaborations, and global contributions boost the university’s profile in education and innovation. It’s part of a larger trend, with over 5,300 Indian scientists making the 2025 Stanford list and highlighting India’s growing role in worldwide science.

Professor Tripathy shared his excitement with : “This system started in 2020, and it feels great because our university’s name is climbing higher. People get inspired seeing me.” He added that his general mathematics research team of four saw their ranking jump from 318 initially. Back in 2020, he and a chemistry professor from the university made the list together, which thrilled everyone.

He reflected on the hard work: “The struggle was real—we’d arrive at the university by 10 a.m. or earlier and stay until 7:30 or 8 p.m. No holidays, not even Sundays or public ones. We just kept working.”

Dr. Ghosh echoed the joy: “It feels amazing when a researcher gets this kind of award—it’s a dream for many.” He recalled starting his career after his 2015 PhD, joining Gauhati University as an assistant professor, and steadily building his work. “Students are key in research; they’re our foundation,” he said.

This milestone strengthens Northeast India’s presence in global research, inspiring more scientists from the area.
