Woke white women melt down over Pantone’s ‘racist’ color of the year: ‘It’s giving Sydney Sweeney’
Last week Pantone announced that its 2026 “Color of the Year” would be Cloud Dancer—an off‑white tone the firm says is meant to bring calm to a hectic world. The decision sparked a backlash, especially among many white women who accused the company of race‑baiting and of “whitewashing” America. On TikTok one user wrote, “Let’s be honest, whiteness is being weaponized everywhere right now. It’s in our politics, our media, our police forces, our borders. Instead of reading the room, Pantone basically branded it a lifestyle,” adding that the shade felt like a reminder of who still controls the narrative.
Other commenters compared Pantone’s move to Sydney Sweeney’s “Genes” campaign, with some accusing the brand of “whitewashing” again. A TikTok video even raged, “Did you forget to read the room?” while an Instagram post called the color “as inspired as mayonnaise.” A few joked that the hue signals a recession, noting that “Pantone can’t afford color this year and neither can anyone else.”
Despite the criticism, Pantone has been naming a Color of the Year since 1999, a choice grounded in colors that are surfacing across design and the larger cultural moment. As a company spokesperson explained, “The emotional resonance inherent in the color is key to the selection process.”
