Karnataka Minister Visits Ganesh Procession Accident Victims in Hassan
In a show of support, Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda visited injured patients from the tragic Ganesh procession accident in Hassan on Saturday. He met them at a local hospital and chatted with their families to check on their well-being.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded on Thursday when a truck crashed into a crowd during a Ganesh immersion procession in Hassan, Karnataka. It claimed nine lives and left 22 people injured in the Hassan district accident.
Earlier that day, BJP leader CT Ravi also stopped by HIMES Hospital in Hassan to meet the victims. He asked about their health and promised help from authorities for their treatment and recovery.
Speaking to reporters, Ravi slammed the Karnataka government’s compensation package as too low. The state announced Rs 5 lakh for each victim’s family, but Ravi pushed for Rs 50 lakh instead. "This amount feels too small for such a devastating Ganesh procession accident. I urge the government to increase it to Rs 50 lakh," he said.
Ravi praised the quick response from doctors and police. "The Ganesh celebration was in full swing last night in Hassan district when the truck accident happened, killing nine people. Medical teams and officers worked non-stop through the night. Right now, 13 patients are in the general ward, and three are in the ICU," he added.
On a positive note, the Prime Minister’s Office stepped in with extra relief for the Hassan accident victims. Under the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF), families of the deceased will get Rs 2 lakh each, while injured survivors receive Rs 50,000.
This Ganesh procession tragedy has sparked calls for better safety measures during festivals in Karnataka, highlighting the need for stronger support for accident victims.
