In the stunning Himalayan region of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, a team of brave adventurers has just conquered one of India’s toughest peaks. On September 9, they proudly hoisted the Indian Tricolour atop Mount Reo Pargial, wrapping up a thrilling expedition that highlighted teamwork between the Indian Army and local civilians.
This daring climb happened as part of Operation Sadbhavana, a program that boosts adventure and strong bonds between the military and communities. The journey kicked off on August 23 from Pooh, flagged off by Lieutenant General DG Misra, the General Officer Commanding of Uttar Bharat Area. The group included 17 civilians, guided by a handful of Army experts to ensure a safe push to the top.
Before setting out, the team trained hard. They focused on key skills like acclimatizing to high altitudes, rock climbing, jumaring up steep faces, rappelling down, and securing base camps. It all built their strength for the real challenge ahead.
The climbers trekked through tough spots: starting at Nako, then hitting the Base Camp, Advanced Base Camp, and finally the Summit Camp. Bad weather hit them several times, testing their grit, but they powered through the harsh terrain and freezing conditions to reach the summit.
This Indian Army expedition wasn’t just about physical fitness—it pushed their mental toughness too. It showed how determination can beat nature’s biggest hurdles in the Himalayas.
Back in Pooh, a lively flag-in ceremony celebrated their success. Army officials praised the group’s unbreakable spirit and the smooth collaboration between soldiers and civilians. They said it perfectly captured Operation Sadbhavana’s goal: creating trust, sharing adventures, and achieving big wins together.
The Mount Reo Pargial Expedition truly shines as a story of India’s adventure spirit, the Army’s dedication to community ties, and the power of human willpower against the mountains’ wild challenges.
