Israel Foils Iranian-Backed Cells in Syria, Eliminates Hezbollah-Linked Commander

Israeli Forces Bust Iran-Backed Terror Cells in Syria and Strike Key IRGC Operative in Lebanon

Israeli troops have been on high alert, rounding up several suspects in southern Syria over the past few months. These individuals were reportedly part of terror cells run by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared these details to highlight their ongoing fight against threats from Iran.

The IDF points to Unit 840, a secretive branch of the IRGC’s Quds Force, as the group behind these operations. This unit focuses on planning attacks against Israel. Back in March and April, forces arrested two key operatives—Zeidan al-Tawil and Muhammad al-Kuryan—right in Syria. More recently, Israeli raids exposed additional cells linked to two IRGC members, Salah al-Husseini and Muhammad Shuayb. Israel took out these two in airstrikes in Lebanon back in July. The IDF calls them top players in smuggling weapons from Iran into Lebanon, Syria, and areas like Judea and Samaria.

During interrogations, the captured Syrians often didn’t even know who their real bosses were. Recruiters from Unit 840 lured them in with cash bribes, keeping the true goals hidden, according to the IDF.

This all ties back to Israel’s move into a 235-square-kilometer buffer zone in Syria. They stepped in last December when Bashar Assad’s regime fell, aiming to stop Syrian rebels from getting too close to the border. Israel now sees the 1974 ceasefire deal as invalid until stability returns to Syria.

In a related development on Thursday, Israel carried out a strike in southern Lebanon, killing Wasim Saeed Jabai. The IDF describes him as a high-ranking member of the IRGC’s Imam Hossein Division, who also worked closely with Hezbollah. This Iranian-backed militia, guided by the Quds Force, has battled Israel alongside Hezbollah and still operates from Lebanon.

Jabai played a big role in building up the division’s strength, securing advanced weapons, and even helping launch missile and rocket attacks on Israel. Even after the Lebanon ceasefire, he led efforts to rebuild and rearm the group. The IDF says his actions broke agreements between Israel and Lebanon, and they promise to keep targeting such threats.

The military made it clear: "The IDF will keep operating to eliminate any danger to Israel." These actions show Israel’s firm stance against IRGC activities and Iran-backed terror networks in the region.
