Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly condemned the terror attack on a Manchester synagogue, warning that showing weakness to terrorism only invites more violence. He stressed that only strength and unity can stop it.
Netanyahu shared his message on X, formerly Twitter, expressing deep grief for the Jewish community in the UK. “Israel grieves with you after this barbaric attack,” he wrote. “Our hearts go out to the families of those killed, and we pray for a quick recovery for the injured.”
The attack hit hard on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, making it even more shocking. It happened in Manchester’s Crumpsall neighborhood near the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. A car plowed into a group of people, and a man was stabbed. Police say at least two people died, with three others in serious condition.
Armed officers shot the suspected attacker, who they believe is now dead. Worshippers inside the synagogue were safely evacuated as emergency teams rushed to the scene. Greater Manchester Police activated Operation Plato, a special code for major armed incidents, and deployed extra officers nationwide to protect synagogues.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also spoke out forcefully against the Manchester synagogue terror attack. He vowed to ensure safety for every Jewish person in the UK and called anti-Semitism a rising poison that Britain must crush.
“This was a vile terrorist act targeting Jews simply for being Jewish,” Starmer posted on X. “Anti-Semitism is rearing its ugly head again, but we’ll defeat it just like before. To every Jewish person here: I promise to use every tool I have to keep you safe.”
Starmer highlighted the attack’s timing on Yom Kippur as especially heartbreaking. He’s cutting short a security meeting in Copenhagen with European leaders to rush back home. There, he’ll lead an emergency Cobra committee session to coordinate the national response to this anti-Semitic violence in the UK.
