Vikram Bhatt taken to Udaipur by Rajasthan Police in Rs 30 crore fraud case

On December 7, Mumbai filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were seized by Rajasthan police and taken to Udaipur amid a fraud complaint lodged by a local doctor. The allegation, filed at Bhupalpura police station, claims that Bhatt and six others conned Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of the Indira Group of Companies, into investing Rs 30 crore.

The filing says the doctor first met Bhatt in April of the previous year to discuss a biopic honoring Murdia’s late wife, Indira, and her pioneering work in infertility treatment. Murdia was supposedly told the movie would generate a profit of about Rs 200 crore. Bhatt also allegedly promised to handle the entire production process. In addition to the biopic, the two reportedly explored a separate historical war‑film project.

The police had previously issued second notices to the six suspects, requiring them to appear by December 8. The complaint asserts that the accused carried out financial irregularities and made false promises to Murdia.
