Rishabh Pant’s Road to Recovery: Indian Wicketkeeper Starts Rehab After Shocking Foot Injury in England Test
New Delhi: India’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is kicking off his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He suffered a nasty right foot fracture during the thrilling Old Trafford Test against England back in July. With the World Test Championship on the horizon, fans are eager to see if the 27-year-old can make a comeback.
India’s next big challenge? A two-Test series against West Indies at home – first in Ahmedabad from October 2-6, then in Delhi from October 10-14. The squad announcement is due in the last week of September, so Pant’s recovery timeline is super important, reports ESPNcricinfo.
Remember that dramatic moment? It happened on the opening day of the fourth Test in Manchester. In the 68th over, England pacer Chris Woakes fired a toe-crushing yorker that smashed into Pant’s right foot. The pain hit hard – swelling popped up right away, and blood trickled out when he took off his boot. Pant’s face said it all; he retired hurt on 37 off 54 balls and had to leave the field on a golf buggy, unable to walk.
But Pant’s grit shone through. Despite the broken foot, he bravely returned to bat on day two. India were wobbling at 314/6 just before lunch, and the crowd erupted as the explosive left-hander strode out to cheers. He wasted no time, pulling a ball with raw power for his 90th Test six – matching Virender Sehwag’s record as India’s top six-hitter in the format.
Pant kept the fire going, driving for a boundary to notch a gritty half-century. England speedster Jofra Archer finally got him for 54 off 75 balls with a fiery delivery that knocked the off-stump flying. In the first innings, Pant’s flair helped India reach 358, but he skipped wicketkeeping duties and stayed in the dressing room for the second dig.
Washington Sundar stepped up big time, promoted in the order to smash an unbeaten 101 off 296 balls. Teaming with Ravindra Jadeja, he guided India to a memorable draw at Old Trafford.
Pant now focuses on rehab to get back in top shape for the West Indies series and beyond. Cricket lovers everywhere are rooting for his quick return – after all, his aggressive style lights up the game!
