Punjab: Police bust cross-border weapon smuggling module; 1,847 catridges recovered

Punjab Police have cracked down on illegal activities, busting a major weapon smuggling ring in Fazilka and a drug trafficking cartel in Faridkot. These operations, linked to Pakistan-based networks, show the state’s commitment to tackling cross-border crime.

In Fazilka, police acted on a tip-off and arrested two suspects involved in a weapon smuggling module. The haul was massive—18 pistols, 1,847 cartridges, and 42 magazines were seized. Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, said the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full network, including foreign handlers and local connections. The police are working to trace every link in this dangerous chain.

Just days earlier, Faridkot Police dismantled a Pakistan-backed drug smuggling cartel. After a two-week operation under the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, launched on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s orders, they arrested two key traffickers. The team recovered 12.1 kilograms of heroin smuggled across the border from Village Jhariwala. DGP Yadav revealed that the traffickers were part of a larger international network with direct ties to Pakistan.

These back-to-back successes highlight Punjab Police’s efforts to curb smuggling and protect the state from cross-border threats. Investigations are ongoing to bring all culprits to justice and ensure safety for Punjab’s residents.
