Maharashtra CM Fadnavis inaugurates new Amalner-Beed railway line

In a big win for Beed’s residents, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis kicked off the much-awaited Amalner-Beed railway line on Wednesday. He also flagged off the first train from Beed to Ahilyanagar, marking the end of decades-long wait for rail connectivity in the region.

“This is like a dream come true for the people of Beed,” Fadnavis said at the event. He paid tribute to late BJP leader Gopinathrao Munde and former MP Kesharkaku Kshirsagar, who fought hard to make this railway project a reality. “Gopinathrao Munde put in tremendous effort for Beed’s railway dream, and today we’re honoring that vision,” the CM added.

The ceremony saw heavyweights like Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who serves as Beed’s guardian minister, and Environment Minister Pankaja Munde in attendance. It couldn’t have been timelier—September 17 is Marathwada Liberation Day and also Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. “Dedicating this historic Beed railway project to the people on such a special day makes it even more memorable,” Fadnavis noted.

Fadnavis highlighted how things have changed since 2014. “The central and state governments teamed up to fast-track this with solid funding. Over the last 10 years, the Modi government pumped in Rs 21,000 crore for railway projects in Marathwada—compared to just Rs 450 crore in the previous decade. This boost has turned Beed and Marathwada’s railway dreams into reality. It’s not just about trains arriving; it’s about bringing development right to your doorstep.”

The CM didn’t stop at railways. He shared exciting updates on tackling Marathwada’s water woes. “We’ve already brought 23 TMC of water to Ashti. Now, we’ll start work to channel 36 TMC of floodwater from the Krishna basin to Ujani dam and then to Marathwada. Plus, 54 TMC from the Ulhas basin will flow to the Godavari basin, building a strong water network. Our goal? To wipe out drought from Marathwada for good.”

This new railway line promises to boost connectivity, jobs, and growth in Beed and Marathwada, giving locals easier access to cities and opportunities.
