India’s Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma fired back at Pakistan with some sharp words and fiery play during a tense Asia Cup Super Fours clash in Dubai. The match on Sunday turned into a real nail-biter, with emotions spilling over from off-field drama to the pitch at Dubai International Stadium.
It all kicked off as India chased down Pakistan’s 172-run target. Abhishek Sharma smashed a top-edged six off the very first ball, then jogged to the other end to chat with opening partner Gill. Witnesses caught him mouthing a few pointed words, ramping up the rivalry in this high-stakes India vs Pakistan encounter.
The tension echoed a famous 1996 showdown between Aamer Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad. In the third over, Gill charged down the track and smashed a four through extra cover against Shaheen Afridi. Gill turned to stare at the bowler and pointed where the ball had gone, leaving Shaheen to just walk away.
Things boiled over even more in the fifth over. Gill nailed another four with a crisp short-arm jab. As the over ended, Abhishek got into a heated exchange with Haris Rauf, forcing umpire Gazi Sohel to step in and calm them down.
India sealed a six-wicket victory, and the openers didn’t hold back online. Gill posted on Instagram: “Game speaks, not words.” His partner Abhishek chimed in with: “You talk, we win.”
After earning Player of the Match honors for his explosive 74, Abhishek opened up about the trash talk from Pakistan’s bowlers. “Today was simple—they kept coming at us without reason, and I didn’t like it,” he said in the post-match chat. “That’s why I went after them. I just wanted to deliver for the team.”
Despite the pressure, Abhishek and Gill (47) attacked Pakistan’s bowling lineup without mercy. They built a blistering 105-run opening stand in just 9.5 overs, easing the chase for the middle order. Gill fell to Faheem Ashraf, while Abhishek got out trying to clear the boundary off Abrar Ahmed against Rauf. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya then finished the job with steady knocks.
The duo’s fearless strokeplay lit up the Asia Cup match, showing no respect for any Pakistani bowler in this classic rivalry showdown.
