In a heartfelt tribute across Manipur, the Assam Rifles honored 16 brave soldiers who died in the 1962 India‑China war.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the battalion headquarters in Tengnoupal district, where 138 personnel marched in a guard of honour, laid wreaths, and paid respect to the fallen. The 16 soldiers had once fought on the North‑East Frontier Agency—now Arunachal Pradesh—against harsh terrain and fierce weather.
The same wreath‑laying took place the day before in another part of Tengnoupal, showing the force’s dedication to remembering its heroes.
During Diwali, the festival of lights, troops and families lit thousands of diyas across Kakching, Thoubal and Chandel districts, as well as at border companies. The glowing lamps were placed at war memorials and company posts, turning the night into a moving tribute.
Local villagers stood shoulder‑to‑shoulder with soldiers, sharing a quiet moment of silence and gratitude. The combined events strengthened the bond between the Assam Rifles and the communities they protect, and underscored the unit’s reputation as the “Sentinels of the North East.”
By combining wreaths, lights, and community participation, the Assam Rifles demonstrates its unwavering commitment to honour its fallen heroes and keep their legacy alive.
