Mani Ratnam Praises ’18 Miles’ Team After Watching Prologue
The team behind the upcoming romantic drama 18 Miles is buzzing with excitement. Directed by Sathish Selvakumar, the film stars Ashok Selvan and Mirnaa in the lead roles. Recently, they got a huge boost when legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam watched the film’s 14-minute prologue and showered praise on their work.
Sathish Selvakumar shared the thrilling moment with fans. "It was an unforgettable experience for the entire 18 Miles team," he said. They screened the prologue at the Madras Talkies office, Mani Ratnam’s production house. After a thoughtful pause, the ace director opened up. He called the prologue "elegant and detailed," and took time to personally thank everyone—from lead actress Mirnaa and his assistant Ashok to editor Nash and the rest of the crew. Executive Producer Shivanand also chipped in with encouraging words. Mani Ratnam even highlighted how the team’s hard work shone through in every frame.
Sathish couldn’t hide his joy. He revealed that Mani Ratnam’s classic film Kannathil Muthamittal inspired him to become a filmmaker. "That movie beautifully captured emotions that cross oceans and borders," Sathish added. "Getting such warm feedback from him today feels like a dream come true."
For those new to the buzz, 18 Miles tells a touching love story set against a backdrop of pain and healing. The prologue hints at the plot: It follows Tharana (played by Mirnaa), a Sri Lankan Tamil woman haunted by the trauma of the ethnic genocide in Sri Lanka. She finds comfort with an understanding Indian naval officer (Ashok Selvan), who goes the extra mile to support her. The film dives deep into themes of love, loss, and solace, making it a must-watch for fans of emotional Tamil cinema.
Adding to the film’s appeal, Siddhu Kumar handles the music, while Ezhil Arasu K brings stunning visuals through cinematography. Nash takes care of editing, M Devendran manages art direction, Amarnath Rajaram co-directs, and Azar oversees choreography. With such a talented lineup, 18 Miles is shaping up to be a heartfelt addition to Tamil romantic dramas.
