Death of Travis Barker rapper pal POORSTACY eyed as suicide —but his family suspects foul play
POORSTACY, whose birth name is Carlito Milfort, was found dead in a Boca Raton hotel room, the authorities treating his death as a suicide after a gunshot wound to the head. The 26‑year‑old rapper, who had been staying in the hotel with his toddler and the kid’s mother, was initially brought to a hospital on Saturday morning when a hotel employee reported a medical emergency. Despite being alive for two days on life support, he passed away on Monday.
Sources close to the situation say the official investigation has not yet confirmed the exact cause of death, but a preliminary report from TMZ indicates the incident is being treated as a self‑inflicted shooting. However, Milfort’s family is skeptical and has voiced concerns that something more sinister may have occurred, though they have not disclosed specific details.
The artist had carved out a niche in the music world through collaborations with well‑known figures, most prominently Blink‑182’s Travis Barker, for whom he co‑wrote the 2020 track “Choose Life” and the later song “Nothing Left.” After Milfort’s passing, Barker mourned the loss on Instagram, posting footage of their joint performances and adding the line, “Rest in peace you’ll never be forgotten,” before sharing a clip of “Choose Life.”
Frontman Oli Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon also honored his late friend with a tribute on Instagram stories, captioning a photo of the duo with “R.I.P” and a black heart emoji.
