Chain snatchers attack two women in Bengaluru with sword, loot gold jewellery

Shocking Chain Snatching in Bengaluru: Women Attacked with Sword During Ganesh Festival

In a terrifying incident in Bengaluru, two women faced a nightmare when chain snatchers on a bike threatened them with swords and attacked one who fought back. This scary chain snatching case happened in the Ishwarinagar area under Girinagar police station limits, raising big worries about women’s safety in the city.

The attack took place on Saturday night around 10:30 pm, but details surfaced only recently. Homemakers Usha and Varalaxmi were walking home after enjoying an orchestra programme during the Ganesh festival. That’s when the robbers, riding a bike, followed them, blocked their path, and pulled out swords.

The snatchers pointed the sharp weapons at the women’s necks, demanding their gold jewelry right away. Shocked and scared, Usha handed over her 10-gram gold chain without a fight. But brave Varalaxmi refused to let go. She gripped her 45-gram gold chain tightly, and when the robber swung his sword to grab it, she tried to block the blow with her hands.

The impact was brutal—Varalaxmi’s two fingers got seriously injured in the sword attack. The robber finally snatched the chain, pushed her to the ground, and sped off with his partner. Right now, Varalaxmi is recovering in a hospital, getting treatment for her damaged fingers.

Bengaluru police say this isn’t an isolated chain snatching incident. Similar robberies hit Girinagar, Indiranagar, Kottanur, and Konanakunte areas between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Cops are checking if the same bike-riding duo is behind all these crimes. They’ve grabbed CCTV footage showing the suspects zooming around on their bike and formed a special team to catch them fast.

Sources hint that the snatchers might have spotted the women at the Ganesh festival event and targeted them on purpose. As Bengaluru grapples with rising street crimes, locals are calling for better night patrols and more security in festival spots to keep women safe. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing investigation.
