Mumbai, Oct 26 – Mumbai’s film community gathered in Vile Parle West for the funeral of veteran actor Satish Shah. The ceremony took place at the Pawan Hans crematorium on Sunday, and many of Shah’s fellow actors and close friends paid their last respects.
Friends from his most beloved show, “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,” lined the crematorium. Actress Rupali Ganguly, co‑stars Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar and Ratna Pathak Shah, along with Ratna’s husband Naseeruddin Shah, joined by Pankaj Kapur, Supriya Pathak and other well‑known names such as Deepak Parashar, Niel Nitin Mukesh, Avatar Gill, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, Rumi Jaffery, Anant Nag and David Dhawan. Their presence highlighted the deep admiration the industry feels for the late performer.
Satish Shah, who died on Saturday at the age of 74, was a pillar of Indian television and cinema. He brought comic genius to films like “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,” “Main Hoon Na,” and “Om Shanti Om,” and starred in iconic TV dramas such as “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi” and “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.” His characters, especially the eccentric Indravadan Sarabhai, turned many scenes into unforgettable moments of humor and warmth. With a career spanning more than four decades, Shah earned a reputation as a master of subtle, intelligent comedy.
The funeral announcement surfaced on social media, where filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared a photo of Shah and a brief video explaining the reason behind the actor’s passing. “Satish Shah died of kidney failure after suddenly falling ill at home,” Pandit said. “He was taken to Hinduja Hospital in Shivaji Park. His body will be brought to his residence in Bandra,” he added, expressing profound loss for the industry.
Shah’s death is a huge blow to Indian entertainment, but his legacy as a beloved character actor lives on in the laughter and memories he created for audiences across the country.
