US Congresswoman extends condolences over Delhi blast, says closely monitoring situation (IANS Exclusive)

The car explosion outside Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday sent shockwaves around the world. At least eight people were killed and 20 others were hurt when a Hyundai i20 detonated near the Red Fort metro station at 6:52 p.m. local time. The blast left mangled bodies and damaged vehicles scattered in the busy area, sending commuters scrambling for safety.
The incident comes after Indian police dismantled a terror cell linked to Jaish‑e‑Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind. Authorities seized 2,900 kg of explosives and a large cache of weapons, and recently arrested two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir who were connected to the group. Investigators suspect the explosion may have occurred while a suspect—Dr. Umar Mohamad—failed to control the explosives during transport.
Indian leaders have reacted strongly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that “our investigative agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy,” and vowed that all culprits would face justice. Home Minister Amit Shah convened a meeting with senior officials and instructed a full‑scale hunt for the perpetrators. Shah posted on X that “everyone involved in this act will face the full wrath of our agencies.”
Across the globe, officials offered their condolences. U.S. Representative Sydney Kamlager‑Dove, a Democratic congresswoman from California, expressed deep sympathy for the victims. She said, “My heart goes out to all those affected by the explosion at Delhi’s Red Fort, and I extend my sincerest condolences to those who lost loved ones.” Kamlager‑Dove also said she will keep a close eye on the investigation as law enforcement uncovers more details.
The U.S. State Department echoed the same sentiment. A spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the explosion near Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance.” The bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs posted on X, “Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. We continue to monitor the situation and pray for a speedy recovery of those injured.”
India’s urgent response—combined with international support—underscores the severity of the blast and the global demand for thorough, transparent investigations. As authorities dig deeper into the link to extremist groups, the world watches closely, hoping for swift justice and lasting peace.
