Sajad Lone accuses NC of ‘gifting’ 7 MLAs to BJP, Omar says don’t act like professor after boycotting RS polls
Srinagar, Oct 25 – People’s Conference (PC) chief Sajad Lone hit out at the National Conference (NC) in a press conference in Srinagar, saying the NC gave seven of its legislators to the BJP in the recent Rajya Sabha elections. He called the move a “gift” that helped the BJP win a seat from Jammu and Kashmir.
Lone also warned that the NC’s support for the BJP was part of a plan to push cross‑voting that would hurt a fair election. He attacked the current reservation policy in the Union Territory, saying it “kills merit” and denies Kashmiri candidates good government jobs. “We will launch a ground‑level drive against this policy,” he said, adding that his party might resort to street protests if the government doesn’t change course.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded by accusing Lone of boycotting the Rajya Sabha polls to protect the BJP. “Lone didn’t want to vote against the BJP, so he sat out the election,” Abdullah said, mocking Lone’s recent speeches. He reminded people of Lone’s earlier boycott and hinted that the BJP’s win, which the NC said was a safe 100 percent, was unexpected. The clash highlights shifting alliances in the state as the NC and PC jostle for influence while the BJP seeks to widen its reach in Jammu and Kashmir.
