Orphan quota a heart-warming decision: Maha CM

Mumbai, December 5 (LatestNewsX) – Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the announcement of a 1 % reservation for orphans “the most satisfying of his life” and a “heart‑warming decision” yesterday.

He said the policy reflects Babasaheb Ambedkar’s principle of “Equality of Opportunity” and extends fair chances beyond traditional social reservations to vulnerable groups such as orphans.

The chief minister expressed pride that 862 young people secured government jobs thanks to the quota and are now contributing to society as self‑reliant citizens. He delivered these remarks while meeting the beneficiaries at his official residence, “Varsha.”

Fadnavis urged the recipients to become “Role Models” and to keep pushing further, encouraging them to use their success to help the wider community. He noted that the occasion also marked the one‑year anniversary of his oath of office, describing the discussion as a “beautiful start” to his end‑of‑year review.

“The government makes many decisions, but some, like the orphan reservation, really touch the heart,” he said. He emphasized that the Ambedkarian idea of equal opportunity shouldn’t be limited to class or caste, but should also reach the disabled and other marginalised sections.

“The 1 % orphan quota was born from that thinking, and it has genuinely changed lives,” he added.

Fadnavis reminded the public that all achievements arise from the collective systems—schools, institutions, governance and industry—that society has built. He called it the ‘Dharma’ (duty) of every individual to give back.

“Never stop where you are; let the success you earned through effort inspire you to keep working for society. Even once you reach stability, keep the spirit of giving alive in your heart,” he counseled.

The young beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunities in education, employment, and the chance to live with dignity. “Today, we’re an inspiration to other orphan children,” they proudly announced.
