Punjab Police Cracks Down on Pakistan-Linked Arms and Drugs Smuggling in Amritsar
In a big win for law enforcement, the Amritsar Police’s Counter-Intelligence team busted a dangerous cross-border smuggling ring tied to Pakistan. This intelligence-driven operation nabbed five key suspects and seized a haul of illegal weapons, drugs, and cash, officials announced on Friday.
The Punjab Police Director General (DGP) revealed that the raid uncovered six high-tech pistols, including Glock and PX5 models, along with 1 kilogram of heroin and Rs 6 lakh in drug money. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DGP Gaurav Yadav shared: "In an intelligence-led operation, Counter Intelligence, #Amritsar dismantles a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module linked to Pakistan and apprehends five operatives and recover six sophisticated pistols (including Glock & PX5), 1 Kg Heroin, and Rs 6 lakh drug money."
Early probes show these operatives worked under orders from handlers based in Pakistan. They supplied the weapons to criminals and gangsters across Punjab, helping fuel illegal activities like gang violence. Police have filed an FIR under the NDPS Act and Arms Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. The investigation continues to uncover the full network, including suppliers and buyers.
Punjab Police vows to keep fighting narco-terrorism and organized crime to protect the state. "We remain resolute in dismantling these networks," the force stated.
This isn’t the first such bust. Just recently, Fazilka Police smashed another Pakistan-linked weapon smuggling module. Acting on a tip-off, they arrested two suspects backed by foreign handlers and recovered 18 pistols, 1,847 cartridges, and 42 magazines. DGP Yadav said the probe aims to trace all connections and expose the entire smuggling operation.
Earlier this week, Punjab Police dealt another blow to drug traffickers. Faridkot Police, as part of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s orders, arrested two major players in a Pakistan-backed international drug cartel. They seized 12.1 kilograms of heroin after a two-week operation based on secret intel.
DGP Yadav confirmed the arrested men had direct ties to smugglers in Pakistan, proving once again the cross-border drug smuggling threat. Punjab’s ongoing efforts highlight their commitment to curbing arms smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and terror links in the region. Stay tuned as investigations unfold.
