Shiv Sena UBT Women Protest in Mumbai Against India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match
Mumbai got lively on Sunday as women workers from Shiv Sena (UBT) took to the streets to protest India’s decision to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup cricket match. The demonstration happened indoors, but the message was loud and clear: they want India to boycott the game set for today in Dubai.
Shiv Sena (UBT) had already announced this show of solidarity against the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash. Party chief Uddhav Thackeray fired up the crowd on Saturday, saying the women would march across Maharashtra and even send sindoor from homes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a symbol of their anger.
Thackeray slammed the government’s move, calling it a mix of politics, business, and fake patriotism. "Our Prime Minister once said blood and water can’t flow together—so how can blood and cricket mix? How can we have war and cricket at the same time?" he asked. He accused the rulers of turning patriotism into a money-making scheme, adding that they’re pushing ahead with the match tomorrow just to pocket the cash.
The protest comes amid rising tensions after the recent Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 Indian citizens lost their lives. It’s the first international cricket match between India and Pakistan since that tragedy and Operation Sindoor.
Not just Shiv Sena, even AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi jumped into the debate, targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He questioned why India is playing cricket with Pakistan, a country he says targeted Indians based on their religion in the Pahalgam attack. "My question to the Chief Ministers of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and others: You can’t refuse a cricket match against a nation that killed our 26 people. Is the money from this game worth more than those innocent lives?" Owaisi asked, demanding the government explain the cash gains versus the human cost.
Opposition voices have been growing louder, calling for a full boycott of the India-Pakistan cricket match. But the central government has given the green light, with no objections from the Indian cricket team to facing Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup.
As fans gear up for the high-stakes game, these protests highlight the deep emotions tied to India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, especially after recent terror strikes. Will the match go ahead smoothly? Stay tuned for updates on this Asia Cup controversy.
