Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – Police in Rourka‑ela booked eight members of an interstate robbery gang after two shootouts inside the Lahunipada and Chandiposh Police Station territories. The clashes left three gang members, including the mastermind Chanda Nayak alias Chande from Jharkhand, badly wounded.
On Nov 22, reliable intel warned the district force that a hardcore dacoity group led by Chande was moving through Bonai in Sundargarh. Inspectors‑In‑Charge and Sub‑Divisional Police Officers were put on alert, and officers in each station concentrated their patrols on main roads and border crossings.
Early Sunday morning, the suspects – traveling in a car and two motorcycles toward Koida – tried to flee after spotting a police checkpoint. A firefight broke out between the gang and a joint K Balang‑Koida unit near Limsa, still under Lahunipada jurisdiction. Police said, “We warned the suspects to surrender, but they ignored us. We responded proportionally and injured one of them, Paras Ram, while the rest escaped toward Chandiposh.”
Simultaneously, another group of the gang clashed with a joint Chandiposh‑Gurundia team near Kucheita village. In that exchange, Chanda Nayak alias Chande and Rajesh Singh were hit in the legs.
All injured were rushed to Rourka‑ela Government Hospital, and police later detained five additional gang members.
During the operation, the authorities seized a Scorpio car, two motorcycles, two local‐make pistols, a revolver, eight live rounds, and cash totaling Rs 76,150.
The gang is connected to several robbery incidents in Barsuan, Banko, and two more cases in the Koida Police Station region. Multiple charges are registered against them in police stations across Odisha and neighboring Jharkhand.
