Serial criminal Cinnabon worker in viral hate video denies she’s racist for bizarre reason

A Cinnabon employee from Oneida County, Wisconsin, has sparked a fresh wave of online outrage after a video of her swearing and hurling racial slurs at two Somali customers went viral on TikTok. Crystal Wilsey, 43, who once worked at a Cinnabon location in Ashwaubenon, was shown calling the pair “n-word” while also openly admitting she was a racist. The clip, posted last week, caused the company to terminate her employment.

Wilsey, whose background is filled with criminal charges, has faced more than a dozen indictments over nearly 25 years. Her court filings list offenses ranging from child endangerment and drug possession to driving under the influence and resisting arrest. For instance, in 2022 she was cited for marijuana possession after a traffic stop in Erie County, Ohio, and in 2015 she spent 20 days in jail for driving while intoxicated in Hobart, Wisconsin.

After the incident was caught on camera, Wilsey posted a defense on her social media. In a TikTok voice‑over she said, “P.S., to the racism, if you look at my Facebook from 2010, you’ll see on there that I have a blended family, and my son was colored.” She later clarified that the color of her child’s skin was the result of a medical condition. In a comment she wrote, “Addison’s disease, and he was discriminated called chocolate because he had brown skin – explanation of racism.”

Addison’s disease is a rare endocrine disorder that can cause skin darkening, but it does not excuse hateful language. Despite her attempts to justify her remarks, many viewers were quick to call her remarks deplorable.

In the wake of her firing, supporters set up a crowdfunding page to back Wilsey. The fundraiser’s text claimed she “was a hardworking White mom doing her job at Cinnabon. Two Somali customers decide to make her shift hell with intimidation,” and it accused the company of “banning the offenders and backing their employee, and keeping the non‑White staff happy.” Since the appeal opened, fans have transferred over $110,000 to the cause.

Wilsey has also engaged with detractors online. One user chastised her with, “You are so embarrassing to the human race. Good luck finding a job from here forward,” to which she replied in a comment: “For defending and inspiring others? Okay Karen.” She maintains that the Somali couple instigated the conflict and that she was simply “standing up for myself and turning into a defensive individual for said reasons did not make me racist.” She further claimed that the initial word might have been a slur, noting that “he called me racist and I returned the comment, and you have no idea what occurred previously to her recording or the harassment I endured.”

The situation has drawn mixed reactions across the Midwest, with some lauding the company’s swift action and others defending Wilsey’s right to free expression—albeit in a context that many find offensive. The story remains a stark reminder of how quickly a single incident can ignite broader discussions about race, employment, and accountability.
