In a shocking turn of events on Halloween morning, a former morning‑show anchor in Missouri has been charged with first‑degree murder in Wichita, Kansas. Angelynn Mock, 47, allegedly stabbed her 80‑year‑old mother, Anita Avers, to death and then called 911 to say she did it “to save herself.”
Neighbors reported seeing Mock emerging from her home just before 8 a.m., soaked in blood and clutching her phone. Alyssa Castro, a local resident, told the news that a woman in heavy blood‑stained clothing approached her car and demanded emergency services. She later learned it was Mock, who fled back inside the house before police arrived.
When Wichita Police opened the door, Mock was standing outside with fresh cuts on her hands. Inside, the police found Avers unresponsive in her bed, covered in multiple stab wounds. The mother was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died within half an hour. Police released the footage of the tragic incident on their Facebook page.
Mock was immediately arrested and taken to Sedgwick County Jail. She faces a first‑degree murder charge and is being held on a $1 million bond. She previously worked as a morning and evening fill‑in anchor at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Avers was a marriage and family therapist for Wichita Counseling Professionals, according to her husband. The community is stunned by the tragedy, and neighbors like Castro expressed relief that emergency crews arrived quickly. She said, “We never know what anyone is going through. This happened randomly, but at least we can call 911 and help.”
