Heavy Rain Alert in Assam: Waterlogging and Landslide Risks Rise in Guwahati and Beyond
Guwahati is bracing for more heavy downpours, and it could spell trouble for the city and surrounding areas. Weather experts predict heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated spots across Assam over the next 2-3 days, including the bustling Greater Guwahati region. This could worsen waterlogging, slow down traffic, and raise the chances of local landslides in risky zones.
Local officials are keeping a close eye on things, with emergency teams ready to jump into action. After recent landslides and blocked roads from intense rains, Assam’s Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) is urging everyone in the state—especially in Guwahati—to stay cautious and alert.
If you’re a daily commuter or planning a long trip, rethink your plans. The advisory warns against unnecessary travel during peak rain hours to avoid hassles. Folks living in low-lying areas or near hills should watch out for flood warnings or landslide signs. Stock up on essentials like medicines and candles, just in case power goes out.

Other spots like B P Ghat in Sribhumi, Nahar Katia in Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur ARG, North Lakhimpur/Lilabari in Lakhimpur, and Golaghat CWC in Golaghat each recorded 7-8 cm of rain. Stay dry and safe out there, Assam!
