Cairo, Nov 19 – Egyptian President Abdel‑Fattah al‑Sisi and Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke on the phone, stressing how fast the world must build on a fresh UN Security Council resolution about Gaza.
The two leaders said a follow‑up plan is vital to keep the current ceasefire intact and push Gaza toward calmer days. The UN vote, taken this week, called for a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF). The force would be set up by member states and the Board of Peace – Gaza’s transitional governing body – and would help enforce the ceasefire and support reconstruction.
“We need to act now,” said Starmer. He urged that more humanitarian aid reach Gaza and that international charities work harder to help the people there. Sisi added that the Sharm El‑Sheikh summit in October, which set the stage for aid delivery, must be followed up.
The Arab League’s secretary‑general, Ahmed Aboul‑Gheit, said the UN resolution only marks the start of a longer journey. He called for immediate action across all levels to turn the agreement into real help for Palestinians and to keep the push toward a sovereign Palestinian state alive.
Together, the leaders highlighted that the UN’s new plan is a concrete step—though not the final one—toward lasting peace and rebuilding in Gaza.
